About Bhakti Yoga South Jersey

Bhakti Yoga South Jersey has been serving South Jersey since May 2010. Our Teacher Training School and head teachers are Yoga Alliance Registered. Our posture lineage is in the tradition of Bikram Yoga and philosophical lineage is in the tradition of Master Yogi Amrit Desai, founder of Kripalu the and the Amrit Yoga Institute. Workshops and private coaching sessions are availableat the studio and online with head teachers Ed and Sandra Gergler in hot yoga, yoga therapy, yoga nidra, thai yoga, raw food and Ayurveda diet and lifestyle.
Why Hot Yoga?
We often get asked why we practice our yoga hot. Heat allows us to get into postures more deeply and effectively and the benefits of the postures come more quickly. Like thousands before, you will find that practicing yoga in the hot room creates a satisfying natural endorphin high.

The benefits are many:

  • Weight loss; your body burns fat more effectively; fat may be redistributed and burned as energy during the class. It is common to lose inches of shape in a very short time.
  • The heat produces a fluid like stretch allowing for greater range of movement in joints, muscles, ligaments, and other supporting structures of the body.
  • Capillaries dilate in the heat; more effectively oxygenating the tissues, muscles, glands, and organs and helping in the removal of waste products. Your  circulation improves to enhanced delivery of healing oxygen to your extremities.
  • Reduced inflammation and relief from back pain and arthritis.
  • Your metabolism speeds up the breakdown of glucose and fatty acids.
  • You benefit from a strengthening of focus, concentration, determination and willpower in this challenging environment.
  • Your cardiovascular system gets a thorough workout.
  • Your muscles and connective tissue become more elastic which allows for greater flexibility with less chance of injury, and accelerated recovery of injury.
  • Sweating promotes detoxification and elimination through the skin – which is the bodies largest eliminating organ.
  • Just as when your body raises its temperature to fight infection, the raised temperature in the room will assist in improving T-cell function and the proper functioning of your immune system.
  • Your nervous system function is greatly improved; messages are carried more efficiently to and from your brain.
  • Metabolism improves and your digestive system is enhanced. Every cell and tissue of the body is conditioned.
